Hat Festival & Hat Auction

Yes, it’s THAT time of year again… it’s the imminent BRIDPORT HAT FESTIVAL!

Taking place as usual on the first Saturday (‘Haturday’) in September, this most bonkers of Bridport events (and that’s saying something) was founded in 2010 by our very own The Guvnor and his Good Lady – although they’ve long since handed it wholly over to the volunteer committee. With many thousands of pounds raised, over the years, for head-related charities, it’s a massive and marvellous day-long end-of-summer party for the town, and the chance to air your fanciest hats, most elegant ensembles, or indeed make your own glorious headwear creations for a chance to be entered into the umpteen competitions!

The Thursday before (which this year falls on 3rd September) it’s the infamous Hat Auction, taking place in the evening at the Bridport and West Dorset Club, with auctioneer Jim Rowe as master of the riotous ceremonies (and the Snookettes running the raffle and modelling the hats). We collect the donated headwear (still in reasonable condition, please) at the hat shop, with a deadline of Weds 2nd September. So please hand over your (no-longer-wanted) hats!

It’s a fabulously fun and hilariously hatty weekend 🎩
