From 25th May through 9th June, Dorset Art Weeks will once more be staging its fabulous two-yearly festival of the visual arts, so of course we had to bring out our HATS IN ART window again.
Amongst the 266 venues listed across the county, our little corner is particularly well represented, with around 50 opening in the ‘Bridport & District’ DT6 postcode area alone. That’s studios, galleries, workshops, hired halls and even homes, all presenting the work of more than 75 locally-based artists.
Given the somewhat slim chances of there being many hats painted, drawn, sculpted or otherwise artfully included, that’s where we come in, to give a reminder that hats have indeed featured prominently – and often beautifully – in many remarkable artworks, past and present. We’ve even dropped in a few of our arty umbrellas and other little nods as well!
With a (mostly) different set of ‘hat’ paintings on show than for the last Dorset Art Weeks two years ago, how many of these can you identify? The Guvnor’s offering another of his mythical gold stars to the winner…
