Snooks may have closed its doors to the public during this second lockdown, but that didn’t mean all hatty activity ceased…

After being contacted by their teacher, Mrs Flook, our Sue found herself addressing an audience of some 60 schoolchildren via the online wizardry of Zoom!

The two Year 1 classes, at Hillcrest Primary in Totterdown, Bristol, are working on a project about hats and so, of course, were directed to us for the low-down.

Zoom hat talk in clocheIn an hour’s talk (on-and-off, with a few ‘technical tweaks’), the 5 and 6-year-olds were introduced to lots of different hats and told how, and from what, they were made. Styles such as bowlers, toppers, cloches and panamas came with a bit of a history lesson. There was even a demo, using the shop’s vintage mannequin bust ‘Short Eric’, of how heads are measured.

The youngsters enjoyed their computer-assisted talk and finished by peppering Sue with questions. Their project continues with the making of (paper) hats and, hopefully, a socially-distanced fashion show!

If you’d like a Zoom talk for your group (adults are the more usual audience) do get in touch.
